2024 Armed Forces Day: Governor Hope Reiterates His Support for Families of Fallen Heroes

The 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration has been concluded with the Imo state Governor Hope Uzodimma leading Heads of Military Agencies and other relevant personalities in the State to lay wreaths at the tomb of the unknown soldier. 

The event which took place at the Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu Square Owerri saw Governor Hope Uzodimma inspecting a guard of honour mounted by the military on arrival at the event followed by a twenty-one gun salute in honour of the fallen heroes.

Addressing officers of the Nigerian military, veterans and wives of the fallen heroes, Governor Uzodimma said the solemn occasion has been set aside to remember the contributions of men and women of the Nigerian military who lost their lives in defence of the country’s territorial integrity.

The Governor who consoled the families of the fallen heroes urged the serving military officers to sustain the efforts of defending the interest of the country.

He urged the private sector to support the government in ensuring that the families of the fallen heroes were adequately cared for. 

The Imo state Legion Chairman and state Commandant of Nigeria Corps of Commissionaires, Comrade Alphonsus Anyanwu thanked the Governor for supporting the veterans and families of the fallen heroes in the state

The Chairperson of the Military Widows Association, Imo state, Mrs Joy Moses said it has not been easy to take care of their families since the death of their husbands and urged the government to Provide support for them, especially the young widows among them.

There was observation of a minute silence in honour of the fallen heroes while the Governor later signed the Armed Forces Remembrance Day register and released pigeons which signified the peace of the nation.
