500 Imo Students Benefit from FG’s Build-A-Thon Programme

The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy in partnership with Raspberry Pi Foundation is organizing a 4-day Build-A-Thon program for secondary school students. 

The programme which is running concurrently in Owerri, Maiduguri and Abeokuta is targeted at mentoring participants through user research, prototyping and problem-solving exercises. 

Speaking in Owerri, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Mr. Bosun Tijani who was represented by a staff of the Ministry, Nafisa Bello, said the program was designed to get the younger generation involved in the technological revolution unfolding globally. 

She said participants would gain valuable skills and develop the confidence to become creators of impactful solutions at the end of the program. 

She encouraged the students to take advantage of the program to learn new skills and prepare themselves for a technologically advanced future. 

The immediate past Commissioner for Education, Mr. Johncliff Nwadike reminded the students that they were privileged to be part of the program and as such should take it seriously 

The immediate past Commissioner for Digital Economy and E-Government, Mr. Chimezie Amadi, said nothing would be impossible for a digitally-empowered person, stressing that digital skills had become both a life-saving and economic-enhancement skill. 

The Executive Secretary, Secondary Education Management Board, Dame Augustina Azubuike, revealed that 10 students from 50 public schools were selected for the program and said that the programme would help them compete with their peers anywhere in the world. 

Some of the participating students expressed their gratitude. 

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education – Chinyere Ibeh, her colleague in the Ministry of Science and Technology Mrs Catherine Ikeagwu, Country Director, Raspberry Pi – Mr. Adelabo Ayodele were at the event.
